About Me

A self confessed nerd, with a background in science and media production, I have been producing film and television professionally for around 17 years.

I had my introduction to television production with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation during my university studies. I then transitioned to a Science Communications role with Geoscience Australia.

I currently produce "craft video" content in a freelance capacity. Working around the world on projects ranging from documentaries and television series, to music videos, fashion and stylised online content.

Career History

Freelance Video Production

2011 - Present

Working as a freelance cinematographer and video producer, I have been able to challenge myself technically and hone my skills as a storyteller.
With projects ranging from television series, long-form documentaries, and feature films, to bespoke product advertisements, music videos and sharp social media content.

    A few noteworthy projects include:

  • Filming the highest rating TV series on Discovery Channel Australia:

Over a 6 month period in 2017 and 2018 I worked as a camera operator for "Aussie Gold Hunters - Season 3" on Discovery Channel.
As part of a small 3 person team based in Kalgoorlie WA, we would write, shoot and direct episodes of the program in 3-week shooting blocks. Each block involved travelling to isolated environments, living in makeshift accommodation and working in hot and dusty desert environments.
I learned techniques for strategic and adaptive story development, as well as directing and managing talent for extended periods.
In addition to writing, shooting and directing scenes, I managed equipment maintenance, data management and syndication from the field. As well as keeping detailed story notes and editing guides for the post production team.

  • Documenting the oral histories of remote indigenous communities:

As part of a ScreenWest initiative, ‘Indigenous Community Stories’ set out to film 100 Western Australian Indigenous stories, have them digitally archived and ‘made available for the next 100 years and beyond'.
As Director of Photography for part of the project, I was able to travel to several remote communities around Australia, interview community elders and document their stories for broadcast on NITV.
During this time, I also worked as Director of Photography for a 16 part SBS documentary series. Profiling famous Indigenous AFL players from the Noongar region of Western Australia.

  • Tourism Campaigns:

In 2018/19 I was commissioned to produce 6 films highlighting different tourism hubs around the country, including tropical rain-forests, desert and coastal reef environments.
I wrote, filmed and produced the segments in some of the most isolated and beautiful parts of Australia. Living and working in a camper/car, modified to be a “studio on wheels”.
Four of these films were intended for an international audience. I conducted interviews and edited the final films in German language.
In 2020 I produced a series of luxury tourism advertisements for an exclusive coastal retreat on the Baltic Sea in Germany.

Communications Officer - Georgiou Group

Georgiou Group is one of Australia's leading building and civil construction companies.
For much of 2018/19 I worked as their Communications Officer documenting engineering and construction projects.
From Hospitals, Shopping centres and Airport Terminals to Traffic bridges and Highways, I produced films showcasing the scale of their works while capturing the stories of the people involved.
This role involved scripting and scheduling stories for release. Organising interviews and coordinating site visits across Australia, while keeping up to date with specific project timelines.
Travelling to construction sites and filming within strict safety and hazardous work protocols.
Managing internal communications products, as well as external and public facing content.
Collecting data and engagement analytics, to tailor our online presence across various channels.

Scientific Video Producer - Geoscience Australia

January 2012 - December 2016

I worked with Geoscience Australia for a period of 5 years, as a scientific documentary producer.
Working with a team of graphic designers and 3D animators, I produced highly technical films and visualisations for both internal and external audiences.
As a Science Communicator I worked very closely with researchers, scientists and executives to facilitate the communication of complex scientific concepts through the use of video and animation.
A large portion of our products centred around education. Developing concepts and narrative content targeting school groups, as well as producing animations and pre-packaged content for seminars and international conferences.
This role also involved travel to remote locations. Operating as a single person crew in harsh environments both in Australia and overseas.

Video Editor - ABC TV

January 2003 - December 2011

I started in television as a video editor with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, editing for News and current affairs.
I also trained in camera and audio departments before moving to a senior editor role for several long form political programs.
I was with the ABC for 9 years, during which I completed my University degree in Communications and Media Production, followed by Cinematography units at AFTRS in Sydney.
